It's perfectly common, by the way, for the Times to run a wire service obit immediately, and put their own obit up a few hours later. This happens, um, about every day.
I'm not commenting on Ritter's unfortunate death on my own blog, because I don't have anything striking to say about it, nor do I think people won't hear about it if I don't tell them, but I will say that it's a damned shame. He had a great deal of talent and was far too young and it shouldn't have happened.
