Re: poll-o-rama

My favorite, purely for the juxtaposition, about 4/5 the way down the page, "Do you personally believe in the existance of the following, God, Heaven, Miracles, Angels, Hell, The Devil, Ghosts, UFOs, Astrology, Reincarnation, and Witches" It's a Fox poll, but still, seems like they're trying to say something....

Thanks for posting my plea, by the way. I went to the library and quickly grabbed two books, but suggestions are still appreciated. Ogged?

Yeah yeah, I knew you were talking to me, dammit. Just what is it you're after? If you're looking for what's supposed to be a very good book on Derrida (haven't read it myself) Rudolph Gasche's Tain of the Mirror is a good bet (not much easier than Derrida though, I'd guess). Gasche also has a collection of essays called Inventions of Difference: On Jacques Derrida that might be good. Honestly, I haven't read many secondary sources on Derrida Like I say, are you trying to answer a particular question, or just get a general sense of what's going on?

Ok, one more: chapters 1 and 2 of John McCumber's Philosophy and Freedom are also a quite lucid look at Derrida (though not differance specifically).

Is it really a gerund you want there?

Which part of speech do you prefer, perv?

I'd like another, more researched perspective on what's going on in Derrida's essay on Differance. Probably the best way to get my questions answered, really. I'm also shooting to impress...the class is being taught by my thesis advisor (undergrad), who happened to do his doctorate (or french equivalent, i really should know this..) under Derrida. In a previous course he gave me a B on my presentation of a section of Being and Time, which I didn't like, especially since I thought I had done a good job. So that's the background, getting an A will be difficult, but I think I'm going to manage.

Just to anticipate a question, you may be asking yourself, "If this guy studied with Derrida, why in god's good name are you giving a presentation, chump?" The answer is, of course, I have no idea.

Who did what to who now? Can this be a piece of disgraceful Kennedy lore of which I, a Boston resident (8th district even) am unaware?

Also, when I saw the above reference to Mel C and Mel G, my first thought was "Scary and Sporty?" I miss girl power...

I'm sorry, baa, but this is a family blog, and I really can't answer that in good conscience. The story *I* heard goes like this: JFK liked to have sex in the swimming pool, and this would often include a little surprise trip below the waves. Why? Well, more or less for the reasons that Michael Hutchence of INXS ended up dead: the oxygen deprivation (and surprise, for her) added to our late President's enjoyment.

I'm not just making this up, though I have no idea how well-documented it is. But it sure is a fun chance to try out your Mayor Quimby impersonation, isn't it?
