Re: Enough With the Reification

I've decided to start commenting. Fun and enlightening for me but if I ever become a bore let me know and I will crawl back into me deleriously empty hole.

Is it me or does anyoone else feel that the discussion is limited by the language we use. Freeom from.... vs. Freeom to.... Is there a neutrality in there somewhere?

Do the diametrics of English lead one into arguments? Where is our ying/yang confluence?

Thanks for the clarification of the issue, but somehow it is not making my process of deciding what the correct position on certain policies and rights should be.

Consider prayer in school (an atheist, or at least someone who is so confused by the question that I just gave up). I feel I have the right to be free from the coersiveness of religious organization. Meaning that I believe the state should not coerse me into believing or acting like I believe something. Yet, I do not mind prayer in school and even support the right of individuals to do it. I do not mind the 10 commandments being engraved on stone and placed on court house lawns. This is primarily because I do not believe it my right to force others to deny or be denie their right to express their beliefs.

This is of course tempered by the nature of those beliefs and how intrusive they are into my personal life and that of others.

In any respect, I was hoping your essay would help me negotiate my way through some rather thorny decisions I need to make but it has only clarified the reason for my inability to do so.

Ahh, but there is my breakthrough, epiphany.

Back to the drawing board, where is my eraser.
