Re: Four for Four

I loved Violet, she reminded me of every girl I had a crush on in high school. But who is Sarah Vowell?

She is a contributor to This American Life on NPR, as well as an author of various things, most recently The Partly Cloudy Patriot. Which I recommend highly.

If you had a cruch on Violet, you'll have a huge crush on Sarah Vowell (who is, after all, a real person). But you're not allowed to, since I've already claimed her as my own.

Agreed - It's a super-stylish film, and the too-short scenes with fashion-designer Edna (voiced by Writer/Director Brad Bird) nearly knocked me out of my chair.

I note, however, that in the McDonald's commercials, Violet does not sound very much like Sarah Vowell. I wonder if she declined the promos or suppressed her normal squeakyness.

I just want to note that I love the environment and I'm not getting any. Also, I'm sure I'd love the movie if I saw it. Just wanted a little me-too moment w/ y'all.

Great mother of god, does this mean that Unf doesn't care about the environment, saw the movie, and is getting some?

For a lot of the movie Violet isn't so squeaky. I think SV can turn her squeakiness on and off, as the occasion warrants.

My crush is definitely on Mirage. Not so interesting, I know.

Oh, further woe-is-me-ism (though I'm not sure where I complained about not getting some), I actually went to see the damn movie this weekend, but it was, of course, sold out.

I agree re SV's squeakiness - but its part of what makes her so gosh darn cute.

For the record, Unf 1) cares about the environment, but is supicious of environmentalists, 2) has seen the movie, and 3) is too much of a gentlemen to answer question number 3, though I think Ogged can draw his own conclusions based on our recent meeting.

Ogged - all the posts about the Swedish swimming instructor? Trans-par-ent.

What Swedish swimming instructor?

Just wanted to say that this blog is easily the best combination of strange whimsy, sublimated porn, and seething hatred (the good kind) I've ever seen. And to view it on a day on which all four co-bloggers are posting -- "breathtaking" is probably a word too far, but only just.

And, yes, The Incredibles is a fantastic movie.

Thanks, Tim. I would add, and not just in response to your flattering comment, that we also have the best and funniest commenters anywhere. Hooray, self-love! (Self defined as broadly as possible.)

Don't forget us lame and pedantic commentators.
