indeed, you could use "schtup" generally as a PG-13 version of the f-word (particularly as "the f-word" is itself somewhat cloying).

Can you really? You can't really say, "Oh schtup!" or "Schtup you!" And saying "They've been schtupping for a couple of weeks now" sounds even more vulgar than just saying "fucking."
