Re: The Little Meetup That Could. Maybe. Well, We'll See.

Kiss the Blarney Stone on my behalf.

horizontal rule
2

Er, um, that is:

Kiss the Blarney StoneCoit Tower on my behalf.

horizontal rule
3

You should definitely blog that. I await your post Coital.

horizontal rule
4

STANDPIPE RULES OK

horizontal rule
5

Woo! Somebody stop me!

horizontal rule
6

(Becks, dude, we're trying to set you guys up! Don't go inviting everyone else to come along!)

horizontal rule
7

If I actually got together with everyone people have tried to set me up with on Unfogged, I'd be the biggest ho in blogland.

horizontal rule
8

ogged, Wolfson, Mutombo, Drymala, who else?

horizontal rule
9

The Janus-faced Weiner feigns innocence, though he well knows his own name should be on that list, due to his own efforts.

horizontal rule
10

Dude, by transitivity that means yours is too.

horizontal rule
11

Yes, as if you yourself haven't suggested more names than that! Forsooth.

horizontal rule
12

that means yours is too.

"is" s/b "should"

horizontal rule
13

8: Wastn't there an effort at one point (perhaps ongoing) to fix Becks up with the man whom some call Tim? Or am I imagining things?

horizontal rule
14

Er, so I guess that means I won't be meeting anyone, preferably sometime including the hour of 7, at a place tackily near the Financial district?

horizontal rule
15

11: Which other names? I honestly can't remember, it all blurs together in a haze of good deeds done dirt cheap.

horizontal rule
16

10: And here again, epistemologist by vocation, employer of highly dubious logic by avocation. The mere fact of observing that you had tried to insinuate yourself into Becks' affections does not constitute an attempt, on my part, to arrange a match, thus no secret passion of mine is revealed by transitivity or any other property.

Which is the true Weiner? Does he even know anymore?

horizontal rule
17

at a place tackily near the Financial district

*Near* the Financial District is not a problem. *In* the Financial District is a problem. (I'm in.)

horizontal rule
18

The act of noting that I desire Becks is itself an attempt to fix us up, because I am so irresistible that on learning that the shining glance of Weiner's attention has fallen on her she must inevitably succumb.

Or: I didn't try to fix us up before, either, I just betrayed my own secret passion.

It's gotta be one or the other.

horizontal rule
19

I'd be the biggest ho in blogland.

Eh, doubtful (that link is work-safe, but clicking through is decidedly not). Your best option would be to save all your hott Becks-style lovin' for me.

horizontal rule
20

God, Weiner, if that's how you ask a girl out, the bloom of youth will have withered on the vine while she parses the sentence.

horizontal rule
21

"To note my jones is to jump my bones"

horizontal rule
22

the bloom of youth will have withered on the vine while she parses the sentence.

I reckon she will be overpowered by the syntax -- give her pretty strawberry-blonde ponytails a girlish toss, giggle, and fall into his arms.

horizontal rule
23

Anyway, Saheli, you should disregard us and totally plan to come to the meetup.

horizontal rule
24

strawberry-blonde ponytails

I think TMK has me confused with another. Or, perhaps, the Becks that would fall for Weiner is not the True Becks but the one of TMK's invention.

horizontal rule
25

And to Saheli and Andy, yay! I'm just waiting to hear back on one thing before I know when I can meet up.

horizontal rule
26

I thought Weiner had the strawberry blond hair. (No pigtails, though.)

horizontal rule
27

24 -- I was talking about the generic girl whose youth was going to with on the vine whilst she tried to unravel Weiner's proposal.

horizontal rule
28

And Cala is right that pigtails is what I meant, not pony-. How come I always get those two nouns mixed up?

horizontal rule
29

wither

horizontal rule
30

Maybe you should just say she gives her tail a toss.

horizontal rule
31

Joe D now, Joe D forever. (And, seriously, "Jody and Becks"; cute.)

horizontal rule
32

If I actually got together with everyone people have tried to set me up with on Unfogged, I'd be the biggest ho in blogland.

And what's wrong with that?

horizontal rule
33

I am
Nothing
You are
Wind and water and sky,
Joe D

If only he were around to appreciate that.

horizontal rule
34

I've heard good things about the Orbit Room, including that Alberta Straub recently won a contest with a drink incorporating cucumber water!

horizontal rule
35

And what's wrong with that?

Oh, stop frontin', B. You aren't even trying.

horizontal rule
36

I am a big fan of cucumber anything.

horizontal rule
37

36: You don't say.

horizontal rule
38

26: Blondish, but definitely not strawberry. If I were to grow a beard, it would be redder, but that hasn't happened since a frisbee injury put my shaving hand in a splint for a few months.

horizontal rule
39

Who am I to stop cucumbers from mating?

horizontal rule
40

Will there be interest in food at the meetup, or are we drinking our dinner? (Personally, I vote for Zeitgeist, since the weather should be nice enough to sit out back and there'll be plenty of space, but as a lurker I don't know how much my vote counts for.)

horizontal rule
41

I can get to a meetup between 7:30 - 8. (Meaning surely by 8 but may show up earlier.) I have no concept of SF geography or drinking establishments so will gladly just show up where told.

horizontal rule
42

Hmm, now that I am looking at a map I see that neither Orbit nor Zeitgeist are more than minimally BART friendly. On the other hand, if Becks can't come till 8 you probably shouldn't plan around me at all---I have immovable obligations on the other side of the bay and was only hoping to drop by for an hour or so. I may have to encourage the fruit of climbing plants to seize the day some other time.

horizontal rule
43

I am so irresistible that on learning that the shining glance of Weiner's attention has fallen on her she must inevitably succumb.

Too much Genji, Wiener.

horizontal rule
44

I was aiming for that effect.

horizontal rule
45

I know. And well done, too.
'bout to check out the new Royall Tyler translation. Genji, it's not just a book, it's a life-devouring obsession. Not unlike unfogged.

horizontal rule
46

Sorry to be popping in and out unpredictably -- I can probably do 7:30 if it's closer to Union Square. Would that be closer to the Financial District and, therefore, better for Saheli?

Also, I heard that Zeitgeist is where Drinking Liberally is held on Monday nights so that could get a little crowded.

horizontal rule
47

Also, I'll be popping out again in a bit but will check back in later tonight.

horizontal rule
48

Ah, yeah, you're right about Drinking Liberally, though the backyard at Zeitgeist is so big I can't see it being a problem. Union Square would in fact be closer to the Financial District; there's also North Beach and SOMA. I can go pretty much wherever.

horizontal rule
49

From whom did you hear that, Becks?

horizontal rule
50

35: Mock my virtue, if you must, but I have a boyfriend and you don't.

horizontal rule
51

I have a boyfriend and you don't.

I have a southern sense of what's appropriate to say in public. Maybe I have a boyfriend or maybe I don't.

horizontal rule
52

49 - Your mom.

Ah, so, not much progress in the last few hours, then?

horizontal rule
53

Ok - 2 places near the financial district. Please pick one, boys. Bacchus Kirk at 925 Bush Street or Hyde Out at 1068 Hyde St. (Sorry - no links. Commenting from my phone.) If we meet in that part of town, I can do more like 7:30 and it will be closer for Saheli. Saheli - would that work for you?

horizontal rule
54

You can comment from your phone? Freakin' sweet. Where can I get me one a them?

Actually, I probably could do it from my phone, but teh interweb on the phone is teh expensive.

horizontal rule
55

I have a southern sense of what's appropriate to say in public.

Sure you do, Mr. Hugecock.

horizontal rule
56

Only my boyfriend gets to call me that.

horizontal rule
57

Oh wow, you really shouldn't plan on me, b/c I really do have immovable obligations that may make me a giant flake. Between those two Bush Street slooks better, but can I suggest something in North Beach? (I know it's almost as tacky as the Financial District, but as a bridge gal I'm sentimentally attached to them) Vesuvio's or the recently shown to me by a native, Spec's? Both near Columbus and Broadway, I think Vesuvio's is 255 Columbus.

horizontal rule
58

Oh never mind, Becks should be near Union Square. .hmm. . .

horizontal rule
59

Yep, Union Square, please.
