At last, scientific evidence supporting my old home cure: one chorus of "Lonesome Loser" will drive even the most persistent earworm out.

Actually, the canonic vermitonico-homeopathetic treatment is "Girl From Ipanema", scientifically speaking.

"Girl From Ipanema??"

That's like quitting smoking by using crack. Just your mention of that damn song has it stuck in my head.

"Have you heard about the lonesome loser..."

Sweet! The Copacabana earworm is gone! Now what do I have to hum to rid myself of this tapeworm?

There was a cartoon about this a while ago, but I've found that the ultimate earworm remover, or perhaps the ultimate earworm, is "Kumbaya".

Nothing sticks though like the Muppets' "Mahna Mahna."

Doot-doo doo doodoo. (Mahna mahna.) Doot-doo-doodoo. (Mahna mahna.) Doot-doo doo doodoo, doo doodoo, doo doodoo doodoodoodoo doot doot doodoo doo.

The song is featured in a BBC America commercial for The Office. I think there's also a version by Cake.
