Re: Warning: Do Not Marry This Girl

Why a truck? "Hey, having a pickup truck is way cuter than having a car," she reasons.

no, no it's not.

bad post. i meant to be agreeing withOgged's observation "reason ain't what it used to be," not insulting all you truck lovers out there. So don't call me out.

$20 says she gets into a car accident inside of a month.

A brand new car? A brand new Cadillac? A brand new Caddilac pickup truck??? For a 16 year old?

Forget the girl, what's wrong with her parents?

She'll get into an accident and her parents will buy her a new one that costs a few grand less.

Weird that you said that was from PG... I always associate PG with Pallavi Guniganti. Does Phillip Greenspun also use the initials? Sorry to make such a point of this, but it's of special to interest to me, since I share the initials too...

I don't think Greenspun goes by PG; I just couldn't decide where to put the attribution without breaking the rhythm of the joke, so I tried to make it inconspicuous; thereby calling attention to it, apparently.

I felt like, "Wow, I'm a princess."

I felt like, "Wow, she's retarded."

Oh my gentle jesus. I would so totally win if I could think of an angle that makes this all ok and shows that you shouldn't be hating on truckgrrl, but I don't think this is within my feeble powers.

Yo, I did better than a 3.0. Where's my truck?

Don't feel bad, Fontana, it's beyond mortal powers. The part that really galls me is the 3.0. Isn't that just scraping past a "C" average? If she'd made 4.0, they would have had to buy her the Pacific Fleet.

Here's your angle, fonty; the girl isn't responsible. She's only 16. It's not her fault she's spoiled, and it's not her fault her parents are rich. It's not her fault her bar has been set low. At 16, no one would turn away an SUV. So, the girl might not be likable, but you shouldn't blame her for that. It's her parents' fault.

Height of opulence? Alas, no. That young lady's future contains granite countertops, if not sub-zero ranges. She could do sales, fer sure.

I think it would have been better just to give her the SUV for her 16th birthday and not make it conditional on getting a 3.0 GPA. Rewarding a person for getting an average mark gives them a poor sense of what it takes to accomplish things later in life. Gifts are one thing, rewards for not actually doing much is another.

A car is not a penis; a car is also the opposite of 'not-a-bitch'. My advice? Get a job and earn your own shit before it slaps you silly in the face that most of us, sooner or later, will have to do so eventually anyway. Ouch, it hurts.

Spare me the pain of your story.

:-)
