Re: So, Who's In For Tacos With Me in SF On Wednesday?

1

That's absurd.

I can't make it, because I have a PTA meeting. (That's where I'm at now.)

Would be absurd. Most likely you'll show up, wait in line, place your order, watch them make it, then take it and eat it. Or whatever New Yorkers do with food.

I'm assuming you mean the one on 24th near Harrison St. No reservations. Also, no nice tableware. Nor nice tables. It's very bare-bones. But yeah, the tacos, they are -correct-. I had 3 lengua tacos on Thursday. Yum.

Actually if nobody objects to my children, who love tacos (and even moreso aguas frescas), I probably could make it. It's my wife's turn to PTA.

4: Actually, I would assume it's more likely to be the one near Mission and 16th, which is near the 16th street Bart station, where we've had other SF meetups. But someone should please clarify, so we don't have half the group at one and the other half at the other.

Someone who actually lives in SF should clarify. My only desiderata are the possibility of parking easily nearby (paying for it is fine), and if there's a significant difference in travel time to the San Jose Airport from different locations, shorter is preferred.

Just pick up a different kid on the way back. If you lick one, the Californian won't recognize the smell and won't let it back in her nest.

You have to take a small one if you're flying. Otherwise, you need a second seat on the plane.

Huh. As matters stand, I'll need to leave my work, which is a couple of miles from the San Jose airport, probably around 4 to guarantee making it up to SF by 6 (Google says 1 hr 15 mins-2 hrs that time of day, depending on traffic). If you are flying out of San Jose, would it make more sense to try and meet up somewhere in the South Bay instead, which might give you more time to hang out and a more predictable drive to the airport? Or would we lose too many people who can make SF but not SJ?

(Put another way: who is planning to come who couldn't make it down to the South Bay if we moved it?)

Wait, you're dropping the kid off in Santa Cruz, then driving to SF, then driving to SJ for a flight? That's nuts!

It makes sense that they flew into SJ to then drive to SC, but yes driving into SF from Oakland on way back to SJ is fairly demented.

It's not ideal, I realize now, but it's the difference between an hour drive and a half-hour drive to the airport, right? No big thing.

Go several blocks south on Harrison, past Cesar Chavez; there's probably more parking near Precita Park, or at least, the last time I had to park in that area (going on seven years ago!), there was.

I'm figuring I'm going to drive to SF from Oakland earlier in the day, park near the restaurant, and then meander around SF on foot for the afternoon.

Having a car to keep track of confuses me. I am so much more comfortable on public transportation.

Alternatively, I could make a future later weekday or non-weekday meetup. I sometimes work from a location closer to BART but won't be there on Wednesday.

neb's advice may be sound but be warned the streets get narrow, steep and confusingly unidirectional in the vicinity of Precita. There's very few pay lots in the area but you should be able to find something on the street if you just circle for a while. Farther East (closer to Potrero Ave) is probably a better bet than farther West (closer to Mission and BART).

I seem to recall that there were great tacos and burritos between SF and SJ, like in Menlo Park? maybe Mountain View? Sorry, it's been a while. Stan's in Santa Clara has awesome donuts; I can testify to that.

Or, to put it another way: Good luck, wish I was there!

Note that if you head towards Precita, one of the SLA safe houses was at number 288. So watch out for Patty Hearst and the Harrises -- I hear they're up to no good.
