Yeah, it's kind of superficially entertaining -- asuming maximum conspiracy and minimum force seeking the truth. But the truth is that there are massive forces seeking the truth of these matters, and such a simple ploy would be very risky. And anyway, never fear, Bush is quickly losing the middle -- the fence-straddlers and centrist republicans. It's not being noted anywhere, but I sense it -- and I hear it from my fence-straddling friends. The dude's in trouble!

As for Bush, I too have that sense but it will need to be stronger before I'm convinced it's not just wishful thinking.
