The first time I had a Cadbury's creme egg, I was shocked. I had no idea that candy could be so fucking disgusting.

Conversation hearts are pretty bad too. Although this year I picked one out of the secretary's candy jar, and totally scored with one that reads: "ANGER". After the initial surprise and joy wore off, I looked more closely and saw that the "R" was of course a smeary "L". Still, I'm saving it.

This seems like a good place to mention that I saw one of the best shows of my life last night. I don't go to shows often; I try to make sure that the ones I go to will be good, and this was great.

I saw Michael Smith play without a mic, in a lovely little venue that seats about 80 people.

It was absolutely great. Chicago people, go see him when you get a chance.

For which federal employees always get a Friday off, whether or not that day happens to actually be Washington's birthday.

Stock exchanges are closed, so we get the day off. Eight holidays a year, including the two days off for Thankgiving (I believe markets actually open for a half-day on the Friday, but our company wisely says "screw that").

That's the thing I really love, semi-random winter holidays providing at least one three-day weekend each month.

We have eight company holidays a year, and five of them take place during one 35-day stretch: two at Thanksgiving, two at Christmas, and then New Years. The other 330 days of the year just get the remaining three to split among themselves.

Can anyone advise?

Music by the actual band The Frames is very bombastic and melodramatic. They really did sound just like Coldplay (without the electronic elements) several years before Coldplay existed.

Probably the soundtrack. But I don't know anything about the Swell Season.

i like silent shout too
many bands i never knew existed and never listened to, but too lazy to look up
a stranger asked me yesterday what i was reading
i couldn't answer him coherently
he wrote down the book title and the author's name
so surprising
