Becks there are as many ways to "get it" as there are survivors. Each takes away a slightly different experience.

Yeah that last paragraph is pretty bad.
Although it does kind of remind me of a great scene on "Rescue 9/11" where one of the firemen goes to a "9/11 Survivors" group therapy session and is disgusted to realize that not only were most of the people there not in the towers, some of them didn't even know anybody who died.
Wow. I think Becks might be reporting what she does, instinctively, on the anniversary of an event that created a great deal of solidarity within (and between) communities: she reflects on the solidarity of those in the immediate area. And she says she does it regardless of fairness. And she puts 'get it' in scare quotes. Christ, people. Becks isn't scolding you.
I know fully well it's an obnoxious thing to feel. I'm sure other people (rightly) don't think I get it. I know I don't get it like someone who lost a loved one. This was meant to be more about how seeing it from such a different perspective puts that in stark relief. We might think we're the only people who understand something because of our experiences but we're not and it's good to be reminded of that.
I was there (in NYC), and I'm pretty sure I don't "get it" in the way that you mean.
Well, I suppose it's good that you're getting that perspective because, man, that's a fucked up way to think about this kind of thing.
To soften my previous comments, I think it's good that you air your instincts and preconceptions, the better to understand what they are and why they exist.
But wow, that's like the same sense of things that lead to like a half-a-dozen full-on loopy wingnut bloggers going over the edge, Charles Johnson of LGF included. To my mind, as soon as you start to think that most people in the world don't "get it" the way you do, that's time to put a pretty serious check on your instincts, especially in serious times.
I can't find it on the internets, but the original Onion 9/11 page had a little box that said something like:
