Re: Hyde Park is an enjoyable neighborhood

I heard a bit of Obama's press conference today and the word that came to mind was 'thoughtful.'

The piece about Hyde Park being a place where ideas mattered more than race or politics seemed to be saying the same thing.

Hyde Park is an enjoyable neighborhood.

Yeah, for like fucking terrorists.

Jake Tapper being a total douche on election day.

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Among the other voters who have shown up to vote at Shoesmith Elementary School this morning, where Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will vote: Louis Farrakhan and William Ayers.
Seriously.
Welcome to the South Side of Chicago.

Also unmentioned are Leopold& Loeb, and the Coumian Exposition, Stagg field's west stands, and John Dewey. As mentioned in the post, the University's role in the ethnic cleansing (aka urban renewal) of its surroundings should not be forgotten.

Columbian. And I should have mentioned Fred Hampton and Mark Clark.

No mention of how to pronounce "Valois"

Rhymes with Alois, as in Hitler and Alzheimer?

6: It's a ska-themed café? I guess that helps prevent people from asking what The Specials are.

Hyde Park has some lovely places to buy drugs.

P.S. the University has actually been relatively better lately about understanding that the community around it exists as slightly more than a blank canvas.

I hear mixed -- but far better than previous -- reviews about the current grocery-store status of Hyde Park.

10: yeah, I left just before the coop finally gave up the ghost, but when I visited recently it seemed things had changed for the better. The Treasure Island that replaced the 55th street coop is only slightly better (if at all), but hyde park produce moving to the 53rd st coop location was a really great move.

I'd take Salonica over Valois for my crappy diner breakfast, though.
