Also, reminding me that I keep forgetting to buy razor blades, and must do so soon or wind up looking all grizzly.

Maybe I should grow a beard, since it's getting really fucking cold. My plans to do interesting things this weekend are starting to seem less appealing than the "huddle indoors under a pile of blankets" option.

So I switched to using a safety razor from a regular disposable today. Obviously I still need to work on my wet shaving technique but I managed to shave with only a little bleeding and what I thought was some mild and inconsequential razor burn on my neck. That is until I went to Judo practice and the instructor wanted to work on strangles. Having heavy cotton cloth dragged across even minor razor burn is totes unpleasant.

When I was in the east in winter, I found that the extra warmth of having longer - but not long - hair did not make up for having to brush it out of my eyes all the time. But the first day after a haircut in January or February, I really noticed the cold.

Rain stopped, so I went out with the cat to see if I could see anything. I have to second fake accent's finding - nothing to be seen but an unusually bright gray sky. Cat was enthralled nonetheless.

I think it's gray all the way down the coast. My parents have been getting more rain than I have in the past week, and they're south of Parenthetical's location.

CJB: What kind of blade? I had terrible razor burn with the first brand I tried, and it got instantly better with a different one (about two months ago).

What kind of blade?

Right now a Merkur Super. I am almost positive the problems are more from poor technique than the blade though.

Merkur blades are also what I started with, mostly because a couple of them came with the razor, and they sucked. I'm on Derby right now. Reading around places like here I learned that the Merkur blades are not generally well-liked, so it wasn't just me.

Technique is definitely important, but even in the first couple of weeks I was using the stuff I could tell the difference when I switched blade brands.

I could tell the difference when I switched blade brands.

I will give the Merkur a couple more tries. I have some Feather blades to try after that. Then I am probably going to order a sampler pack to try some other blades as well.

I use the cheapo Israeli blades you can get on ebay [Persona?]. However, ordinary Wilkinson Sword are fine, too. I found the Merkur blades too sharp and they irritated my skin.

Technique is everything though, go with the grain, prep properly. I don't get any razor burn or irritation at all anymore [and I'm not remotely anal about it, shaving takes about 5 - 10 minutes start to finish, including cleaning the sink].
