Re: It was the high point of the evening

I was at a wedding yesterday as well, and let me just say that the end of June in NC is no time for an outdoor wedding and reception.

It's easy, Sifu, don't let her get married.

"was a child, and that"

So, did Pittsburgh get its "n'at" from the Irish?

I was also able to confirm once more that it takes far more effort than one might expect not to dance.

I feel certain that this was because you really, really wanted to shake your booty, not because people were trying to insist that you dance.

Yep.

In other words, why do all these homosexuals keep trying to get Neb to dance?

Because he's a little butch?

It's a set-up! If he dances, someone might say something about it, then all hell breaks loose, and the next thing you know, the entire freakin' internet is talking about you and you have to resign even though you were doing first rate philosophical work before you were so stupid as to dance.

Who'd really be dumb enough to make a mistake like that? Are we not grown-ups?

Paul McCarthy is coming to sing "Back in the U.S.S.R. (is where you should go)."

To threadjack: it's been a while since this thread. I'm interested in trying to refresh my memory of Spanish over the next two months before a trip to Spain, although I know from experience I probably won't be able to / be committed enough to devote serious time to it. (Yo estudiaba español por diez años cuando era niño, pero ahora he olvidado mucho.) Are those podcasts at the intermediate level likely to be useful? Maybe I should just watch telenovelas a lot.

My dad did this when he was studying Spanish. I guess it helped.

My mom has found Destinos, which is not a telenovela but one of those language learning tv shows built around a narrative - more of a narrative than French in Action. it seems, but still educational - helpful.

Destinos was part of the standard Spanish 2 curriculum where I went to school.

Do you have any co-workers who speak Spanish? Forcing yourself to speak Spanish every day at lunch or something like that is a helpful way to get back into conversational practice.

You can also find conversation partners elsewhere, of course, but I was going for the lazy solution low-hanging fruit.

I have to record something in Spanish today and I'm a bit tense about it. Luckily I have a native-speaker colleague coming with me. Yesterday I spent two hours listening to presentations in Spanish and was surprised at how tired my brain was afterwards.

In other news, NMM to Robert Byrd. RIP, crazy and remarkable old man.

With his party having won 6 of the City Council's 15 seats, Mr. Gnarl needed a coalition partner, but ruled out any party whose members had not seen all five seasons of "The Wire."

Santa Claus With a Buttplug

He knows if you are sleeping
He knows if you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So sleep on your back for goodness' sake.

Oh, you'll probably pout
You'll probably cry
You'll probably shout
I think you know why...
