Re: It would strain charity to credit Richard Cohen with having any thoughts at all, much less too many

Not for nothing did Richard Cohen cut down the nets the great Salon Hack-Off. Jesus. That awful, stupid man has had his job for 34 years!

Cohen is a graduate of Far Rockaway High School[1] and attended Hunter College, New York University, and Columbia University

Am I correct in assuming from this that he doesn't even have a college degree? Wow!

Richard Cohen is a true inspiration to stupid, lazy people everywhere!

Perhaps a better analogy would be that you are walking on the beach with a rifle and you hear someone screaming, "Help! A shark is eating me!"

Do you shoot in the direction of the screams hoping that you'll hit the shark, but possibly hitting the person asking for help? Do you swim out into the water towards the screams putting yourself at great risk of being eaten as well?

Sorry, no. This analogy sucks too.

The analogy ban is really a precious and wonderful jewel.

The analogy ban is like the no-fly-zone that protects Unfogged from the shark with a rifle.

Richard Cohen drowning in the surf would be a misfortune. Someone rescuing him His columns continuing to be published would be a calamity.

5: When did Unfogged shoot the shark?

Richard Cohen drowning in the surf would be a misfortune.

What if he drowned during a failed effort to save Charles Krauthammer after somebody rolled him off a pier?

7 misreads 5, in which the shark has the rifle. That's why you don't fuck around with these things.

Actually, 5 is ambiguous.

Just to clarify 5, the shark does indeed have a rifle. RUN!

I was wondering if/when this column would appear here. DougJ did it well at Balloon Juice* by quoting a few paragraphs from the piece without revealing the author. I narrowed it to Cohen or Brooks, but in retrospect the latter was probably not that good of a guess.

*Not that neb's manure pit tragedy treatment wasn't good.

Jeff Tietz on Smithfield's pig shit lagoons:

The lagoons themselves are so viscous and venomous that if someone falls in it is foolish to try
to save him. A few years ago, a truck driver in Oklahoma was transferring pig shit to a lagoon
when he and his truck went over the side. It took almost three weeks to recover his body. In
1992, when a worker making repairs to a lagoon in Minnesota began to choke to death on the
fumes, another worker dived in after him, and they died the same death. In another instance, a
worker who was repairing a lagoon in Michigan was overcome by the fumes and fell in. His
fifteen-year-old nephew dived in to save him but was overcome, the worker's cousin went in to
save the teenager but was overcome, the worker's older brother dived in to save them but was
overcome, and then the worker's father dived in. They all died in pig shit.

Richard Cohen is the one who is on the record as saying that he doesn't feel safe if he doesn't know for a fact that people are being tortured in his name.

Also, Jordan Barab's blog. Jordan is now working somewhere in federal OSHA. The system is the same!
