Re: Slightly less last-minute DC meetup

Let me be the first to suggest meeting at the Smithsonian by the Muppets.

It's really, really hot in the DC/Balto area, today and tomorrow as well -- like 100+ (with the heat index, in the vicinity of 110 F), so meeting up a bit later than tomorrow, when it might hopefully have eased off a bit, might be good.

I just returned from an informal bar gathering preceding my 25th high school reunion (that I won't be attending) tomorrow night. It was pretty amazing the breadth of range from "wow, you look exactly the same" to "holy fuck, that must be 25 years of hard, hard living under your belt".

Saint-Ex at 7 it is.

I think we're expecting Messily, Kraab, YK, Mme. Jacobian & offspring, another lurker, and possibly Becks.

I'm wearing a red & white dress. If you don't see us upstairs, check the tables downstairs where there may be more room.

YK, don't stress yourself out about the time. Get there when you can get there.

I have an idea for a new business: Transcripts of talk radio for liberals.

I figure there should be a nationwide market of at least 300, 350 people who want to know what the crazy people on the radio are screaming about, but can't stand to listen to it for more than twelve seconds without wanting to throw things.

Or maybe it's just me.

(If only the Phils had been on, I wouldn't have had to hear twelve seconds in the first place.)

73-77: I still pronounce it "boner". I mean, "bayner"? I call bullshit. What other words in the English language pronounce "oeh" like a long a sound? If not English, in what language is that normal? (Seriously, does anyone know? Googling "boehner etymology" was surprisingly uninformative, but I did find this, which is inconclusive but says that "boner" is a plausible possibility.)

Okay, I'm listening to a required "Violence in the Workplace Prevention" program, that introduces itself by listing incidents of violence in the workplace of NYS offices. It just listed 9/11 as an example. I mean, I suppose it was violence that impacted state offices, but it really doesn't seem relevant.

If you want to see the NYTimes deliver up a double-decker shit sandwich read this news "analysis" by Jackie Calmes ("A 'Unique Opportunity' on the Debt Ceiling, Lost") and this column by racist fuckpig, David Brooks ("Congress In the Lead"). Not as memorable since they don't quote all the Viilagers, but as emblematic of our time as the Sally Quinn "he trashed the place and it wasn't his to trash" political Rosetta Stone article was of the late '90s.

What other words in the English language pronounce "oeh" like a long a sound?

What other words in the English language contain the letter sequence "oeh" at all? (Seriously, I just did a wildcard search in OED and found nothing that wasn't a name or crossing morpheme boundaries.)

Long a is a reasonable, if not good, Anglicization of German รถ.
