I was confused. I had thought the couch-throwing was a reference to Megan, but then, she's not in Davis, is she? So it was a reference to von Wafer? We need that spreadsheet.

But the Capitol Corridor never lets me bring couches afire on the train. They're stodgy.

Our story so far: Stanley will be at Bar None in SF on Wednesday night with Thundersnow and some non-Mineshaft folks, which we could combine this with. We were talking about a separate thing on Thursday or Friday - maybe at the Trappist in Oakland - but both of those days are bad for at least two people in the prior committees of correspondence (especially Friday is bad for Stanley).

So at this point I think we're left with a rather diminished group on Thursday, joining the crowd in SF on Wednesday. Thoughts?

Or, Stanley, when do your Wednesday festivities start? Maybe you could start at Bar None and switch off to a meetup-only thing elsewhere in the same general area. I'm motivated here by being put off by the reputed noise level of Bar None.

There are some states, including the one in which I live, which need to seriously step up their nickname game.

Yeah, Bar None seems suspiciously bro-tastic. (One of the Yelp reviews mentions beer pong.) I'm curious as to how Stanley ended up committed to going there.

She's near Davis.

Sacramento is the core cultural and economic center of the Sacramento metropolitan area which includes seven counties; with an estimated population of 2,527,123. ...

And it has 7x Davis' population! And it's the state capitol! All of which is just to say, it seems a bit odd to just leave it as merely implicitly referenced by "Davis."

The thing is, Sacramento really is just a bedroom community of our little town.

Anyway, I can't make it Thursday or Friday. But I'll be happy to come down Wednesday, if that's the plan. I'll even bring Megan, if she wants to join me. That said, my beer pong skillz are nowhere near as finely honed as I wish they were.

Although the more natural interpretation is as a standard call-and-response, I've always interpreted the "Pasadena, where you at?" and "Sacramento, Sacramento, where you at?" lines in California Love as reflecting a failure by Pasadena & Sacramento to show up for the party.

What constitutes "nearby" to Bar None? I have a strong desire to avoid anything having to do with Union Street. (Actually, now that I think of it, Buck Tavern -- which Minivet has been to -- would be an excellent location; it's close to BART, maybe 10 minutes by cab from Bar None, and has both space and relative quiet.)

I've been to Davis several times, but have never yet found a reason to go to Sacramento except for its airport, on the way to or from Davis. So somehow the metonymy (synecdoche? I never remember) seemed natural to me.
