Re: Fork me on github

Once I came to a fork in the road, but I just left it because there was no way to know where it had been. Plus, I had a bunch at home.

I'm not going to rest until I've used "frobnicate" in conversation.

Yes, the Jargon File is entertaining.

I was actually given a copy of the book version (The New Hacker's Dictionary) in High School, long before I did any programming, and I think it permanently skewed my relationship towards computers -- I want them to be vaguely absurd and distinctly other rather than gadget-like, or a part of normal life.

I'm surprisingly anti-techy for somebody who works with computers.

Anecdata:

I think that the end of my love-affair with Debian started at Debconf last year where several developers treated those of us who also worked on Ubuntu quite rudely. Someone was attacked for wearing an Ubuntu t-shirt at the conference, while someone else was applauded for wearing a "Fuck Ubuntu" t-shirt.

(Hey, the t-shirt was really very nicely done. To put things in perspective, it wasn't nearly as contentious as the participant who brought a hooker to the formal dinner.)

7: So "I didn't leave x, x left me" is not just for the Democratic Party. Maybe just things that begin with "De". "To Fork or Not To Fork."

Fork it hard, fork it good, fork that project just like you should.

The difference with Git/Github is that is makes it easy to merge changes back in. One could almost says that is the intended usage.

Now CVS -- that's something really shitty. It's receipts are WAY too long.
