Re: Goatye

This isn't that one song that is getting overplayed so ridiculously right now.

I believe this would have been more effective had they kept the original music.

The video is the one for that song ("Someone That I Used To Know"), but they've opted to use some completely different song for the bad lip reading thing. Weird and unsatifying, but it doesn't help to stick that stupid song back in my head.

This parody, however, does.

I just watched the video in 4, and it is indeed great.

I watched some of their other videos too. They're a bit uneven in quality, but some of them (such as the Ke$ha and Pitbull ones) are also pretty great.

And now I just watched the video in the OP, and... yeah. Underwhelming.

The video in 4 appears to actually be parodying this cover rather than the original Gotye version.

OT (but this is the music thread):

I mentioned this once before (late in a previous thread) but I thought I'd take one more attempt to stir up interest.

I recently worked on a new mix. It's my attempt to capture what I've come to appreciate withing country music. My tastes mean that it's heavily tilted towards interesting singer/songwriters (and I think there is a really strong tradition of songwriting within country music) with a few more honkey-tonk style songs thrown in for a change of pace.

There are, for example, tracks with Willie Nelson, Suzy Bogguss, and Lyle Lovett each turning up the charm (in particular that Suzy Bogguss track is really impressively charming). Great songs about people trying to figure out their lives and walking away from old relationships or starting new ones (and the opening track is pretty close to H-G's advice from one of the recent ATM's). There's are a couple of very jokey songs including one about a person who really shouldn't be allowed at Home Depot any more.

I wasn't completely surprised that at the lack of interest last time I mentioned it. I feel like putting together a country music mix is the sort of thing that might lack in instant appeal, but I really did try to make it interesting.

This is a good mix! I've been enjoying it. It's a nice complement to HG's country mix from a few back.

I owned a Suzy Boggus CD in college.

NickS, do you know any of Laura Cantrell's albums?

I don't.

I did see here name when I was looking for people to include on this project, but I ended up not getting anything by her. I don't think I had a good reason for that decision I just didn't get to her.

Sweet. Downloading now. If this is the music thread, let me just say Joyce Manor's new release, Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired, is the best 13-minute album you'll hear all year. Theoretically, you can stream it here, though the site's being a little squirrelly at the moment.

14: She has a decent number of story songs. Though I think I mostly like her for her instrumentation (hello, pedal steel!) and because her vocal range matches perfectly with my most comfortable range.
