Re: Unpaid Labor

I was about to link that in the previous discussion about paying prisoners for their labor but then I thought it would be rude to analogize prisoners and homeless people. So now we can just point out that it's fucked up- do they rationalize it by saying that people are earning money to pay for the support they're being given? Anyway, off to the company store!

What rationalization? It's therapeutic.

Sports teams seem to like hiring disabled people. I know that the Red Sox pays some folks with Developmental Disabilities to prep their field. It's a highly coveted job, but they do pay minimum wage.

The Sox also have a history of players with mental disabilities.

Is there no one in the NFL or the state of Florida to look askance when a stadium manager proposes or mentions an arrangement like this? No soft-hearted wife or daughter of the team owner? No bad-publicity-averse son-in-law? Nobody reasonably sane?

No soft-hearted wife or daughter of the team owner?

Well that women have the world to win,
And we ourselves are daily much the bolder;
But how to give the power-hungry men
The moral worry helpmeets used to shoulder?

I just noticed that the coffee machines at work are from Aramark. I need my coffee; thus we are drawn into complicity with oppression.
