Didn't Judith Miller go to jail to protect her sources? That might have been brave if her sources had existed outside her imagination.

Her source wasn't imaginary, it was Scooter Libby, or at least he took the fall for the source.

Yeah, the problem with US journalism over the last decade ortwo has not been that tthey're too ready to reveal their sources. It's that they are too ready to protect sources who have been exploiting them and lying to them in order to promote evil policies.

I did not know about the partial walkback: "Yet Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who authorized the subpoena years ago, surprised many in the Justice Department when he announced last month that he would not force Mr. Risen to go to jail if he did not testify. That caused tension between career prosecutors and Mr. Holder, who said he now believed that his leak crackdown went too far at times." That's something I guess.
