Re: Good Days, Bad Days

Theologically speaking, getting somebody to shoot you is better than shooting yourself. Unless you shot yourself for some reason besides trying to kill yourself.

Are you sure? That trick seems like it would work only on a dumb theologian.

I certainly wouldn't want to test it personally.

I think Sister would have failed me if I tried to make the argument on a religion test.

At root, maybe it's the same reason one might choose a gun over another suicide method - it's more performatively masculine.

It's hard to put ten bullets in yourself, and I have heard stories about people putting a shotgun in their mouth and just blowing out one eye one ear, most of the jaw and cheek.

Watched a good Oshima movie last night where the guy climbed high in a tree to attach the rope to a large limb, so he would fall 15-20 feet before the rope grew taut.

I agree with the second part of 6.1, but, soonish as cops are, Muniz shows that they're also unreliable.

6.2 boggles my mind, since I can barely bring myself to jump 15-20 feet down when I'm in a safety harness attached to a suitable momentum-stopping mechanism.

my fear of heights made me love rock-climbing as a teen, and enjoy bungee jumping. sadly I can never do the latter again because my spine is all bjorked up. my spine doctor told me to, among other things, "avoid even minor car accidents." like, who the hell lets their cab driver get into fender-benders on purpose? "nah, just rear-end that beemer" said no one ever.

Actually, I think that's a fairly common form in insurance fraud.

Also, I could never bungee jump except under extreme duress.

Anyway, if you decide to stage auto accidents, you should stick to planning and recruiting. Let young people take the actual impact.

8: Bjorked spine club represent! Woo! I just last month spent a good afternoon crawling around on the floor with a buggered spine trying to get things done around the apartment like feed the cats. You can actually move quite fast if you're prepared to abandon any pretense of dignity.

On the plus side my doc never said anything about avoiding car accidents so there's that.

Don't wait until it's too late to try one.

14 is interesting and unexpected - I suppose I would have expected marriage to be the killer because of perinatal mortality... I guess widows still have a terrible time of it as well.
