1100+ shootings already this year with the hot weather months still to come. Real paradise out there.

The public info officers get to know them a bit but it seems like there's not much of the old school cultivating of sources.

Yeah, Nickeas mentions that in the video (in a funny way). It's worth watching.

It's worth watching.

It really is. Gripping.

Home from work and just watched it. I liked it. He's getting a fair bit of the kind exposure to the same things we do. The anger, constant threat assessment, nightmares, etc where you flirt with borderline PTSD type stuff are always there and it's interesting to hear him describe it because man is it familiar. I damn near laughed out loud when he griped about the PD higher ups trying to claim the murders are down. I think he'd fit into a police line up pretty well.

Brilliant. Thank you very much, Ogged: a reminder that my trade has its honourable bits. But what an unbelievably fucked up city.

After watching it I finally read the short piece he wrote more explicitly addressing the PTSD. Quick read; also worthwhile.

10: Christ, a lot of that is a bit too close to home with the drinking and the nightmares. Sounds like he's having a rougher go with anger than I am but I'm not seeing anywhere near that kind of volume of scenes.

Everybody, get up in the mountains more. When I look at this year's shooting stats and articles like this I wonder if we're seeing the beginning of another Detroit or Baltimore.

Sometimes I wonder that, but Chicago is so much bigger, and there's still a lot of good stuff here. Although it doesn't help that the state as a whole is so fucked up.

I've been making a series of brief visits to Chicago over the past several years and it does not appear to have changed much. Of course, maybe the A and B concourses at Midway aren't representative.
