No, the incident in 2015/2016 definitely happened, in Köln. This is about something alleged to have happened 2016/2017 in Frankfurt.

Also, to be clear, the mob in Köln was overwhelmingly migrants - not refugees - from north Africa.

What rJH said. Someone should probably update the post to reflect that.

I mean, it still supports the conclusion that racists lie a lot, but also the conclusion that I do not read with care.

I feel like a threadjacking does you a favor here. This is a fun story:http://cluborlov.blogspot.sg/2017/02/you-are-not-in-control.html

I really enjoy my car. That said, I found this fascinating even though I think some of it may be exaggerated.

I also enjoyed this but it is not as fun: https://www.jacobinmag.com/2017/02/trump-election-hillary-clinton-racism-democratic-party/

Surely "Dmitry Orlov" is a cruel satire of renowned kitten-clutcher and technofear blowhard Evgeny Morozov.
This can't possibly be meant seriously:

Worldwide, there are 1.2 billion vehicles on the road. The population of the planet is over 7 billion. Therefore, there are at least 5.8 billion people alive in the world who don't own a car. How can something be considered a necessity if 82% of us don't seem to need it?

Yes indeed, ladies and gentlemen. He really is counting the total number of vehicles, thinking that's the same as the number of cars, and comparing it to the total number of people. This is a man who by his own admission is unaware of the existence of a) buses and b) children.

Thanks, LB--I had exactly the same misconception.

Not to mention the idiocy of arguing "lots of people don't have one of these. What possible use can they be?" which could be applied with equal rigour to, say, flush toilets. FIGHT THE LAVATOROSPHERE!

In 9th grade we read a story that tried to trick you into seeing that cars were stupid by comparing them to how the Indians treat cows. It was called the sacred Rac and talked about how they make awful waste and kill and maim people and require lots of construction to keep them happy, vs. cows in India provide manure that is useful and have lots of other benefits, and as an aside it said, "The Rac can sometimes be used as a beast of burden" which was the only positive thing in the entire story. So I never understood if it was trying to say a) Cars are bad and our attachment to them is as irrational as some people think cow worship is; b) Non-Indians underestimate the benefits of treating cows as sacred; or c) It's easy to write a biased story to make people think some strange foreign group and their practices are stupid.

If cows were important, everyone would have one. I do not have a cow. Therefore Hindus are stupid.

It's like you've never heard of a ranch. We pay other people to hold our sacred animals for us. Then we eat them.
