Re: A meal and a shill.

I've never heard of this- is it a dessert? Appetizer?
And that times article is so full of holes and logical inconsistencies I stopped counting at 10 stupid things he said.

Let's put everything that makes me queasy in one thread, I guess.

I think it's a snack? It was sold at a fundraiser stand.

I had a picture book on "Eating the Alphabet" when my kids were little, but this is the first time I've ever seen jicama mentioned anywhere else. We had no idea how to pronounce it: jik-KAH-ma? JYE-ka-ma? (It would have been so much easier if the authors had just used jackfruit instead.) And what on earth does it taste like?

HICK-ama. Crunchy, mostly tasteless and a little bitter. Just like my women.

5: HIH-ka-ma. It tastes kind of like a less-pungent radish. Crisp and refreshing.

None of the examples I'm seeing online involve pickles or candy. And one person described it as a "recent craze" but the sign (with a photo) on the food stand did not look particularly recent.

6,7: Thanks! So in fact both the vegetables starting with J in Eating the Alphabet are actually said with an H sound (the other example was jalapenos). I'm kind of glad I didn't know how to say it properly then, so the boys didn't grow up thinking "juice" is pronounced "hoose."

It's not a trick. It's just Spanish.

Spanish is the easiest language to pronounce ever. Unless making the clicking noises is really easy and I've just never known anybody who tried.

If anyone here is planning to get their minor heart attack treated at the hospital by my house, I can recommend the low-sodium chicken stir fry unreservedly.

See, another problem with Obamacare- if you make the low-sodium chicken stir fry too tasty, people are going to have elective heart attacks just to get to try it.

I can't decide which is more disgusting, the description or the picture (which should be put below the fold!).

So, how can we monetize this shit and get some serious SV VC $$$?

First, we design a very aesthetically pleasing container and sell it for, say, $100. Then, for $49.95/month, we agree not to put pepinos locos in it.

Thanks, folx. I am still in hospital, but apparently it was a very minor attack. Angiogram tomorrow, crossing my fingers that they don't have to stent and I can go home tomorrow evening. Sucks, but, you know, it certainly could have been worse.

bloody hell Nat. British Rail ate my earlier note of sympathy. But I'm surprised they didn't give you a precautionary stent. Which artery was blocked? I have a personal interest in these matters, having had the most insiginifacnt artery imaginable blocked, and stented, some years ago.

I think the science on stenting has been shifting back a bit, but I don't follow that very closely.

Though I think that was stenting after for angina, not an actual heart attack.
