Re: San Francisco Meet Up and question

1

On the rental car, probably depends on where you're staying. If deep in SF, and/or bartable, probably easier without.

I'm, um, still nailing down exactly where I'll stay that night.

The default is that you don't want a rental car, unless there's a *particular reason* you do want a rental car. You can get quite a few Lyfts for the price of a rental car, and not having to park is much better. Reasons to have a rental car would be: going to Muir woods, driving south along the coast on highway 1, seeing the baby goats in Pescadero, going tidepooling, etc. But there's also tons of stuff to do without leaving the city, so by default no rental car.

One caveat: do you have an early morning flight out on a Sunday? Is that flight earlier than BART opens on a Sunday? How were you planning on getting to the airport? If your hotel has parking it may make sense to just keep the car the extra day for an early flight, or maybe just Lyft there.

Can we bump the NY meetup thread or combine a NYC meetup post to this one and add my dates? I'll be in NY from June 24 to July 14. Let's have another NYC meetup!

I fly back to here on the 14th. I'm flying to NYC tomorrow and will be available from Monday till July 13th.

June would be better though. Wednesday or Thursday but I'm flexible depending on who will be around.

Generally, I can do something next week just fine. This whole weekend is a mental hellscape of family drama, so I should either be relieved or emotionally scarred but with stories.

3.1 is a pretty solid list of reasons to have a rental car. Does Heebie in SF sans kids mean Fresh SaltDrake's Dealership is out of the running? My votes are Southern Pacific or Gestalt.

I will be in NYC July 7th through July 17th and could do any NYC meetup in that time frame (weeknights would probably work best though).

I will also be doing 10 days in NYC a month pretty regularly for the foreseeable future.

Assuming it's possible to cancel a car rental without penalty (within 24 or 48 hours, or whatever), I would secure a reservation for a car now, and then decide later. It's likely you won't want a rental car for just that one day, but why not make a reservation, just in case? (again, assuming that you can cancel without penalty).

Both places suggested in 13 would be easily accessed via transit, also Sycamore is on the same area.
