Re: Nothing Is News Anymore

I can't find it now, but I saw more than once an RT of someone (presumably relatively good people if it got on my timeline without dragging) saying that US counterintelligence has a habit of aspersing people as Chinese informers based on little but their nationality.

The bitter ex-husband may also play a role here.

I met W/endy D/eng one time (momentarily, at a big event) and honestly she struck me as exuding an aura of pure evil. Nothing more than a vibe but a strong one. I don't know if giving off an aura of pure evil makes you more or less likely to be an agent of the Chinese government.

Consider this discussion contributed to.

If Murdoch is lying (more likely, IMO), he comes off bad. If he's correct and she was a Chinese agent during their marriage but he didn't know it, that doesn't speak well of his journalism empire. If he was correct and he did know it, it again doesn't speak well of him, but in a different way. The only advantage to him making that statement is due to chumps believing FUD, something he knows a lot about.

This is independent of De/ng We/ndi's evilness, which is already easy to determine from the fact that 1) she married Rupert Murdoch, and 2), equally important, Rupert Murdoch married her.

It's important to have a common orientation toward evil in a marriage.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to put a slash through a hanzi? You start out talking about "王" but you googleproof it to "玉" and suddenly you're talking about the wrong player.

To avoid censors, sometimes people will use images of words, which can avoid word detection censors. That and obvious homophones (e.g. grass mud horse).

The couple that plots world destruction together stays together. Or doesn't as the case may be.

Also, didn't she date Putin after/during Murdoch? I feel like he's got to be even a rung more evil, if possible.

Did she date Putin too?

Many have observed that the Trump administration hired a wide array of weirdos like Gorka, Omarosa, Scaramucci etc. to "work in the White House", and have speculated on what in God's name they might be doing. Theory: Each of them has been tasked with using his or her wiles and strategems to try to seduce Wendi Deng.

Meanwhile, a former CIA agent has been arrested under suspicion of betraying intelligence sources to China. It's unclear how much (1) applies, but if he was found carrying around notebooks with sources real names and phone numbers as the article states, that doesn't look good.

Unbelievable or all-too-believable that he paid hush money to pornstars and Mary a blip or so it seems to me from way out here.

15, incidentally, is a really badly written article. I could use it as a teaching aid on what not to do. Omitted details, unattributed quotes, unclear sourcing, scrambled chronology, clumsy writing. The New York Times desperately needs better editors.

If Obama were to pay hush money to porn stars, that would actually be big news. But we expect that Trump would pay hush money to porn stars, so its a dog bites man story.

And monetary policy independence and the Human Rights Act? And Putin's going to send the Serb paramilitaries back into Kosovo? And Zombie Foday Sankoh's going to start cutting off hands in Freetown again?

The HRA looked to be on the way out until very recently. It's still government policy to revisit it, I believe, once Brexit is out of the way.

You know, I suspect that the issue isn't that she's an "agent" of the Chinese state, any more than Trump is necessarily an "agent" of Putin. They're just very, very rich people who have interests that are aligned with certain other very, very rich people. There doesn't have to be spycraft and payoffs to explain this - Deng is probably just a nationalist, and she's acting in the interests of China not because she's a spy but because she believes that acting in the interests of China is what she should do, as a very rich, very connected person who has personal ties to a lot of other very rich, very connected Chinese people. Trump might be in the pay of Putin, but it seems to me more likely that he's just a corrupt rich person who has been doing a lot of self-serving deals with Russians. In short, the villains are nationalism and capitalism, not spies and cabals. I mean, if it were only spies! Spies are a small problem. The problem is that rich people can undemocratically pull all the strings to advance the interests of whichever group they prefer.
