Re: Caught

Serial killer stories are ugly, sordid and depressing. If I were able to censor, true crime would be first on the redacting block.

Yeah, yeah, buzzkill, podcasts, Patton Oswalt's wife, etc., etc.

It is pretty interesting regionally. I've had a couple older women friends who grew up around here tell me how scared they were at the time.

I wonder why he stopped in 1986. I hope we find out.

My cousin got a bunch of family members to put DNA in with 23 and Me. Now they're going to assume if I don't do it, I'm a serial killer or sheltering a serial killer on the other side of the family.

He's going to kill her, isn't he?

6: Her daughter ends up killing him in self-defense. With an assist from a junior-lifeguard-in-training.

I guess I agree with the sentiment in 1. And yet, we watched all the way to the end of The Chalet.

I thought, of course, when I read this

In her big Irvine warehouse, among the vases and mirrors and other decorative bric-a-brac, stood shelves of color-coordinated hardback books -- aqua, navy, gray, brown -- because books made nice furniture in perfect homes. She hunted at weekend library sales. The titles didn't matter, as long as they omitted the words "sex" and "death."

that she deserved everything that was coming to her. Later I changed my mind. That is one of the best written piece of American journalism I have ever come across.

That is quite a story. And a good point about self defence too. She had three weapons and she wasn't able to get to any of them when she needed them; she could have had a gun and it wouldn't have done her any good either. What saved her was her mental attitude.

5. I read that a while ago, and when it was referenced thought "Oh, ydnew is gonna get pointed to a previous thread here." Dunno if there was one, but it was a riveting read when I first saw it (wherever that was), and it still is. Basically these guys are a lot like pickup artists/Alphas in their methods, and reading the story it seems so obvious, but...

10.last: I really hope the attitude was ironic detachment or a generalized sense of annoyance at everything.

Everyone loves to see a serial killer, even when they're imaginary.

Doesn't the Daily Mail just make up shit when it can't fill space?

On the contrary, the space available expands to accommodate the shit the Mail makes up.

This woman may well not exist. The Mail does that; makes up people an then writes stories about them.
