There's a peninsula at the very south of Western Sahara that's shared with Mauritania, but the barrier blocks off the whole peninsula so the WS side has no people (including the ghost town of La Guera). The lack of people has made it the last remaining colony of Mediterranean Monk Seals. It's disconcerting how good human tragedies can be for animals (see also Chernobyl).
