Re: Guest Post: Porn Chancellor

I remember when Bill Bennett wrote "The Book of Virtues", then was revealed to be a degenerate gambler -- a traditional non-virtue that just happened not to be listed as a bad thing in the book -- and started explaining that no, THIS PARTICULAR SIN has a lot of nuances to it and you can't just say it's always wrong.

No sex tapes were involved but this reminds me that once an FCC commissioner said something like "We have to be purer than Caesar's wife; I just wish Caesar's wife hadn't been so pure."

Scandal: respectable sex worker has secret second career as a university administrator!

This was funnier when I thought it was the Madison campus.

The guy was retiring anyway. Should have waited before posting the videos.

Ashley-Madison campus?

No. Just because I think of the Madison campus as The University of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin requires all sex tapes to include a piece of cheese.

5: Probably figured he had nothing to lose. Or maybe hoping to get fired as the publicity would help launch his second career.

Oh yeah, I should have specified that it was La Crosse.

Way back in the day it was illegal in Wisconsin to add food coloring to margarine to make it look like butter (I think changed in the 60s). Trying and failing to think of the analogous porn prohibition.

Here and there online I've run into people who claim to know this guy, have taken a class with him back in the day or something, and they uniformly have said he's a great guy.

The youtube material (on-camera cooking and talk) is wholesome. Mid-fifties looking couple cooks vegan food and chats with guests. They use a couple of different kitchens, can't tell if the Wisconsinites travel or if the guest stars do. Kitchens look like regular home kitchens, but immaculate. Competent camera work and good sound, 7/10 for food informativeness. 100% a call for Wisconsin libertarians to defend free speech.

Usually Chancellor is predominantly a fundraising and PR position, though maybe that's less true at a branch campus than at the main campus. But if you grant that, then it seems fair to fair a Chancellor for a PR snafu that donors are mad about, since that's the job.

Videos are all under 3 weeks old on Youtube, most viewed is 38k, variance I think due to guest stars, videos with no guests are less viewed.

Mr. Gow, 63, said he and his wife, 56, have made videos together for years but had decided recently to make them publicly available on porn websites and had been pleased by the response.

I wondered what they were contrasting to "publicly" - looks like they had an OnlyFans and a LoyalFans. The OF is a free subscription, so they're not making money off it.

Our district changed from K-8 to K-5/6-8 several (10?) years ago, although our school remained as the only K-8 because it's language immersion and they couldn't maintain that through middle school when merging with other non-immersion schools.
All test scores for the district are public but I don't know if anyone has observed an effect that can be deconvoluted from cohort effects and pandemic.

I'm still not sure about the whole pandemic thing. We had a family New Years with all siblings, spouses, and children. Now we're waiting to see if we get sick.

I wonder if middle schoolers benefit from being perceived as the big kids in a school. It's such a weird age. It's on the horizon here and man, it's going to be a ride.

I think middle schoolers benefit from not being around only other middle schoolers.
