Fuck Comey and fuck the NYT for carrying on about him.

The real sliding door was Bush v. Gore, but the fact that we got walked into The Stupidest Dystopia by Trump trying to shake more money out of NBC and James Comey trying to get the NY FBI office's Giuliani cronies to stop badmouthing him really is something.

I thought we got into this because Obama teased Trump at the White House correspondence dinner?

I'm listening through the history of Canada, in which I'm learning that, a bit less than exactly 200 years ago, the president of the United States destroyed the country's financial system for no particular reason, thus triggering a continental depression.

In the week since the tariffs hit, ocean freight bookings from China are down 50% across the industry. Flexport bookings from China down more like 35%, but sources at carriers and forwarders indicate 50% is the industry wide stat.
IIUIC, empty stores for most stuff starting in about 3 weeks, for some things approximately tomorrow.

Well, thank God the Supreme Court has clarified what the word "days" means in one particular immigration code section.

(If an alien is ruled deportable, they can be given up to 60 days to voluntarily depart.* Or move for reconsideration. What happens if the 60th day is a Saturday? In this case, the lawyer FedEx'd the motion to reconsider on the Friday, but it didn't get filed until the Monday. And more seriously, if you can only challenge a final order of removal, does that mean your challenge to the denial of your motion to reconsider because it was too late is within the court's jurisdiction. SC went 5-4 on this: yes they can hear the case, and yes the Monday is ok. For the love of God, people, file on the Thursday!)

* I have a story about this involving a Togolese film star that the then-president-for-life wanted to add to his harem and the former (but at the time then-) mother-in-law of a former (but at the time then-) vice president of the United States on this subject, but only tell it in person.

I was never a fan of a global economy anyway, nor (most) cheap stuff, nor lots of what is called growth. Interesting to see that ocean freight bookings are down, since California agriculture uses the cheap otherwise empty returns to ship their goods to China.

I am glad about Temu and Shein getting pummeled. That probably makes me an arugula elitist or something but so be it.

I like a good lettuce thing these days. But arugula really needs to be a small part of the overall lettuce if it's going to taste good.

16 AIHMHB, ancestors of mine lived in Council Bluffs and neighboring small towns. Just over a century ago, several members of that family moved up to northern Saskatchewan. This is how it turned out that my mom's 3rd cousin was the number one pick of the 1966 NHL Amateur draft. *That* is invasion!

This exchange gave me a great idea for an amendment to the Constitution. Every state has a right to have at least one major league professional sports team. Imagine the excitement in Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas! This is the issue that could get the Democrats back in contention in the non-coastal West.
