I really don't do well at data visualization. I keep trying though.
I don't think the masses fail to understand that climate change is happening. They just don't think anything should be done about it, either because they don't think anything can be done about it or because they don't think it's worth it.
(Or because they think Jesus will return before it gets too bad.)
I think it's Tufte's fault for not inventing a better graph.
1: Me too. I have to translate it back into text, so I'm not the person to evaluate how effective these are. The only thing I'll say is that some things will work well for some people and others for others, so we need an array of approaches.
I didn't really like the Christmas tree one. For someone like me, it would have been easier to appreciate that if they had grouped all of the greens together and all of the whites, with the years listed on the left or right. Intererspersed like that, I don't pick up how many more green (brown- really) Christmases we get.
This is like the time a bunch of Unfogged people said that they did all their college math classes strictly using written words, and never visualizing anything. I was completely shocked.
OMG the way the little text boxes rise up as you scroll, COVERING PARTS OF THE GRAPHIC is triggering me. I skipped all the words but some of the graphics seemed effective. Lake freeze. Lake no freeze.
