Re: The Uncanny Valley

the stuff about "personality" and "date of birth" gives me the willies

You think the info provided with actual pin-up models is any less virtual? I mean, do you really think those are her actual "turn-ons" and "turn-offs" and "last novel read"?

It's kind of curious that we want that kind of info, though, about someone we're primarily interested in visually. Maybe it helps to humanize them, or bring them down to earth? Does it migigate the objectification, or just assuage a guilty conscience? And I'm not sure if it's the same or different as wanting to know details about the private life of, say, a favorite singer or author.

Anyway, none of them have anything on Christy. Or Diane. Or that Germanic Goddess model you used to link to back in the day.

Federica Fontana! (Italian; if she's the one you mean.)

You know, generally, I'm not into the pinups precisely because there's no story (or personality) there. So I'd guess that that is the purpose of the info, and maybe a way for guys to think, she doesn't like smokers...I don't smoke!

The uncanny valley doesn't actually have much research behind it, IIRC. It's come in for a lot of criticism recently.

Yep, she's who I meant. And I said "Germanic", not German. I'm sure the Vandals or the Visigoths or somebody figure somewhere in her ancestry.

Is she related to Labs?
