I could see a rationale for very late term miscarriage, in which case one might be concerned that a murder could be masked as a miscarriage--but I can't see one for a law that covers the entire term of pregnancy.

No, that's not what I meant. I meant a birth (probably premature) and a subsequent murder. You, however, they should probably throw in jail anyway.
