They could do that, though it would be shitty of them, and, I bet, relatively easy to hack. I think they're just counting on people not realizing that third party software solves the problem.
I beg to differ about the coolness factor. That contraption is the ugliest thing I have ever seen when it comes to PDA/phone and such. The heck is that? It looks like a brick... I am sorry, I just don't see the coolness factor in this thing.
It looks like just about every other PDA. And it's much smaller than it looks in the pictures; easy to slip into a pocket, in fact.
