Re: How to give thanks

Wow, I feel like my pedestrian tastes are getting kicked up and down on unfogged lately. I liked Hilary Swank in MD Baby. And I'm happy to see her ass.

My highbrow cred is that instead of seeing the academy awards I was out watching Almodovar's Bad Education. Lots of guys having sex. If ogged is still working out his sexuality, he might want to give it a look.

I dunno man, isn't that a rather churlish reading of Swank's speech? She thanks a bunch of people, and she did do the heavy lifting. I prefer my stars a bit big-headed anyway, because nothing is more devastating than what (was it?) Golda Meir said to (I think) Henry Kissinger: stop being so modest, you're not that great.

Churlish, probably. I'm somewhat sick of Hilary and the cult of the actor. I want them to broadcast the Nerd Oscars -- the ones they gave to those guys who refined camera-crane technology over 25 years. That's love of film, and clearly not love of fame.

Anyway, HS came across to me as just invoking thankfulness, like she invoked her trailer-park childhood despite being pretty middle-class.

Thelma Schoonmaker is great.

In fact she's *a* great, as in one of the greats.

You think Scorsese will finally get one of those gold statuettes if he just starts wearing dresses that show off his ass? He might as well try that, since directing three of the finest films of the last 30 years didn't do the trick.
