Walter, trouper:

1. A member of a theatrical company.

2. A veteran actor or performer.

3. A reliable, uncomplaining, often hard-working person.

The "hard-working" sense does seem to come from the "veteran actor" sense.

(Remember, Unfogged's comment sections are a free-fire nitpick zone. You've been warned. I'd say "Don't start none, won't be none" but that's manifestly untrue.)
