Re: L. Ignores Me

It's not necessarily true that she ignored you. For instance, I used to poll my mom for her opinion, but only to narrow down the range of choices; whichever choice she picked was right out. Perhaps L is displaying profound wisdom for her youthful years.

Wow. I hope your mom doesn't read this blog.

I keep trying that strategy with my parents, but they do all kinds of manipulative things like try to advise me to do what I want to do, or they say they'll support my decision etc.

Just tell me to do something so I can reject it, already!

Too bad for my kids - I've seen The Fantastiks, I've performed in The Fantastiks, and I know why the kids put beans in their ears.

New Orleans rocks! And swings, and just about everything else you can imagine except freezing.

L is going to have a great four years, just so long as she does enough work to actually stay in school.

New Orleans is great, indeed, but the one time I was there in the summer, well, I wouldn't want to live there. Entirely too damn hot and mosquitos have no business whatsoever getting that large. Also, the last time I was there, a ghost pushed me down a flight of stairs (true story!).

Question for the peanut gallery. Would it be more distracting to be an undergrad in New Orleans or Las Vegas?

I would vote for New Orleans as the most distracting. The bars are everywhere, even in tucked into residential neighborhoods. Makers Mark shots can be had for $2. Hell, beer can be even cheaper.

Maybe listened to your advice, then checked the weather channel, said something like "holy crap - it's snowing in May?!?!!* Fuck that shit". And started looking at her non-UofMN options.

*you think I'm kidding, don't you? Thick cold snow. No accumulation, but still...

msw,

Regarding snow in MN in May - we like to think it keeps out the riffraff.

Every year, when Minnesota does this or something similar to me, I think about how my in-laws live in Florida, and my father in-law wears long pants just once a week (when going to church). Not that I'm moving, but if I was just a bit more rif-raffish, I could see being driven out.

It really, *really* makes you appreciate spring when it finally arrives, though. May is the best month.

L. totally took my advice, though. I was stressing the food and partying angle.

A porn? I hope they also eventually show an ography, to keep the pedants from dying of suspense.
