Is it possible to read that and not do a double take?

FL, you must have missed the message, it's liberals who have no sense of humor. That's why we don't get jokes like being told our motivation is to hurt soldiers.

It's highly admirable that Bush has orchestrated this precipitous drop in his approval ratings; if they were higher, it would have given his liberal critics ammunition for the charge that the war was motivated by a desire for political gain.

A 42% approval rating is welcome given the solemnity of the occasion and the need to convey seriousness of purpose.

You know, now that you mention it that whole flightsuit/MISSION ACCOMPLISHED business was probably just an incisive piece of satirical performance art.

You get even less applause out of troops when they're held at attention.

It's hard not to suspect at least some small story behind the story here, and -- big surprise! -- I don't expect NRO to turn such up. (Dan Froomkin comments on this today; something I've been more or less afraid to blog on is how, ah, forthcoming with opinion the Washington Post has been allowing Froomkin to be in his invaluable column, but since no one reads comments here, surely it's safe to mention. ;-))
