Re: Throw Another One On The Pile

I can't decide if this is appalling or not. I think it is, but the government finally seems to be taking things in hand, and I'm inclined to leave them some room to work things out before the yelling recommences.

Stop the madness! Folks, this is another urban legend worthy of the trash can.

Is it? Has it already been debunked?

next your going to tell me this nice man from Nigeria isn't going to give me half his savings for being the good fellow that I am.

And that nobody, in fact, has a secret crush on me.

No! Everything you read on the internet is true, I tell you, true!

I've updated the post as less hysterical info emerged. There is a job fair being held there tomorrow and the Army is just one of many employers represented. Not nearly as grotesque in context. Sorry 'bout that. I might be a little prone to believing the worst right now.

There's a lot of rumors milling about (extent of violence in the Superdome, for one) that seem to be either unsubstantiated, weakly substantiated, or out of context. All the internets does, pace Instapundit, is make rumors spread faster.

That said, it says something about this administration that it seemed totally plausible that they would send recruiters to a hurricane shelter.

Actually, the words that occur to me for Mr. Gilliard's post, and for passing it along as fact are "hysteria" and "irresponsible."

But, then, I actually try to fact-check questionable stuff.

The thought crossed my mind of blogging on this alarm-oh-let's-not-wait-for-facts, but I don't like picking on individual bloggers, so I'll be kind to Mr. Gilliard, and move on.

But, you know, anyone with three brain cells to rub together should know that the most fucking irresponsible thing one can do in a disaster is pass along hysterical rumors without checking them. Let's incite panic and riots in the lust to get a good blog entry! Yay!

I heard that from the cannibals, so it must be true.
