Re: Saturday Fun Link

FYI: not only is today Guy Fawkes Day, it's the 50th anniversary of Doc Browne's discovery of the Flux Capacitor.

Hey speaking of mashups -- I was listening to the radio last night and heard something that totally blew my mind: the dj (Ed Shepp of WFMU) had edited a lecture on Aristotle's "Nicomachean Ethics" and mashed it up with a jazz tune (one I did not recognize.) Fucking awesome.

There's not a link to that by any chance, is there?

Great Scott!! I think I might spend the whole day walking around muttering "1.21 jigawatts?!" to myself.

Or would that be too weird.

Washerdrier -- You can listen to last night's Ed Shepp show by going to his play lists page and clicking on the November 4th link. The Nicomachean Ethics song is midway into the program but the whole thing is quite worthwhile really. About three or four songs in is a remix of Madonna singing that "I'm sorry, nobody's perfect" song of hers, with an extended instrumental portion over which Shepp reads a statement about how the song is not about apologizing to a friend, it's about an experiment in AI gone horribly awry...

Argh, so I reminded myself while typing your name, "Careful, it's not spelled the way you expect it to be..." And instead of going back to double-check, just picked the first variant spelling that came to mind...

Mm, just listening to it again now. I was mistaken, the song in question is nearly at the end of the hour, 52 1/2 minutes. And yes, the rest of the program is well worth your time.

What's particularly cool is how the lecture on Aristotle immediately follows a song about perfection from the Mormon standpoint.

And I'm thinking now that my description of the soundtrack as "jazz" was mistaken. Not sure what musical style it is actually.

That was pretty good.

w-lfs-n, how bad are your injuries? Why aren't you making expected corrections? Getting a reputation as a grammar shrew is easy; maintaining it is where the work is.

(That is, I hope you're feeling better.)

No injury to my body could be as injurious as the loss of my reputation!
