Round up a posse! There's no justice like street justice.

I would think that identity theft has a slightly different profile than burgling to steal wallets and laptops. So although you should act as though your identity has been stolen, and take steps to minimize the damage, there's a chance that the person will throw your passport & ss card in the trash.

Yeah, I don't think that thieves like passports. I left a note at grammar police about my own DC theft experience. My bag with a wallet was stolen. I never did get the driver's license back, but my passport was returned via Homeland security.

The sucky thing is that American Express won't let you contest unauthorized charges based on an internet print out of the charges; you have to wait for your printed statement to come in the mail.

No, I'm not too concerned that this robbery will in fact negatively burn my credit. It's the completeness of the profile that e managed to take that really bothers me: my license, passport, SS card, credit cards, debit card, checkbook, and health insurance card. Only because I recently traveled did I have all those things in the same location. I mean, I'm little more than the sum of those documents, so I feel stupid for not taking better precautions.

You're just going to have to change your legal name to Armsmasher.

(Seriously, that sucks. Hopefully the ID documents will come back. After which 5 different "Kriston"s will be caught trying to enter the US illegally.)
