Re: Sucking 'Em Dry

Geez with the ovaries already! Can we hijack this thread in the name of March Madness, men of Unfogged?

What with Texas taking the #2 seed, for the first time ever there's not a huge disparity between my Hook 'Em brackets and my Cash Money brackets, but Christ if it isn't Duke (and some other teams) standing between us and a Final Four berth. Horns or no Horns, in my heart of hearts I know Connecticut will win out.

You want a NCAA Tournament post? I don't know a blessed thing about it, but I can put the post up.

You can talk about football if you want to.

Isn't that what your roommate's blog is for?

So we're without a long term quarterback here in Minnesota--if we can trade up for a high-first-round draft pick, do we want to go for Leinart or Young? I know nothing of college football.

Who else is doing brackets? SCMT? I wonder whether the Tournament of Books brackets would be better attended by this crowd.

MY doesn't basketblog the college ball.

Short answer: You won't be able to trade up high enough for Leinart or Young, unless Houston wisens up and realizes it's O-line and not runningback slot they need to fill. But then, is Minnie going to pass on Reggie Bush, even for a superlative quarterback? Do you have enough to give to Houston (or New Orleans or Tennessee) in the way of picks? I'm asking, I'm not really sure.

But I'll have to get back to you on the relative merits of Young and Leinart—got a little work that actually needs my attention.

You know what's disturbing? I watched so much college basketball at one time (I know I've admitted this before, but it gets worse) that I read this and immediately thought: "But in 1995, 13 Manhattan beat Oklahoma, 14 Weber St. beat Michigan St, and 14 Old Dominion beat Villanova in triple overtime. Why doesn't he mention any of this in the column, even though he claims to have looked back to 1994?"

Maybe I should put memory of the 1995 tournament in the talent thread.

6: Akin to your roommate, I don't much follow the college game. If I want to see slow-paced games punctuated by rah-rah excitement from cornfed drunkards, I can always watch Hoosiers. I only really care that (a) UNC do well, and (b) more importantly, Duke be embarrassed.

Smasher--it sounds like the idea being floated is we'd be willing to give up Pick 17 and two second round picks to move up. I don't know how far that gets us.

I prefer college to regular season NBA, but if I want to see high quality basketball, then of course I'll watch the playoffs.

I'm also a bit annoyed that my undergrad school, in the last two tournaments they made, had to play Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh and Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. If they make it out of the first round, which I'm not optimistic about, they'll have to play Texas in Dallas.

I'm cheering for the terrorists again. It would plunge the US irreversibly into fascism, but a terrorist attack on the Final Four would almost be worth it.
