Yeah, I read that story and couldn't decide on unabashed, unadulterated scorn or some more balanced anthropological angle. I don't deal with a lot of people this rich, but many of my students drive really nice cars, and I've wondered what's going to happen when they realize what must be done to keep up the income flow.

Cheer up, apo. Maybe you can be the first to talk about this. Or did a certain old comrade blog about that months ago?

Can you imagine a society in which the skills at being successful were similar enough to the skills in raising children? Would such a society be desirable?

1) I was going to say Manson, but Pol Pot is much better.

2) Anything that harmlessly parts rich people from their money is good in my books. We should be encouraging them to spend more on their brats.

3) Does anyone have any of these girl's phone numbers?

I somehow mangled 6, but I think the gist is clear. Consider the gauntlet thrown! I want a 12 page paper on the topic by Monday. Must include a brief exigesis (no more than 602 words) outlining Socrates' position on the subject as he expresses it in the Protagoras.

This would be much funnier if the defense lawyer, rather than the plaintiff's lawyer, had said it.

While I relish the pwnage, I'm glad to see Apo gave this it's own thread. It really does deserve more scorn than it could get buried in the comments.

Also, I would like to note that Anderson Cooper claims that My Super Sweet 16 is his favorite television show. In case there was one person left in the world still wondering about his sexuality.

in this post-feminist era, it's taboo to question sex-crime data or the claims of any alleged rape victim.

Who loves this maneuver?

Based on women's responses, researchers concluded that 15 percent of women surveyed had been raped and 12 percent had experienced an attempted rape. [National Review]

"27 percent. Or 3 percent. Why not just announce that there is no such thing as rape, ergo, problem solved. Zero is within the range of error, after all." [Vox Day]

He never mentioned his fourth Ph.D. in mathematics. So few commenters show such mastery over the Du Toitiative operation in mathematics.

You know who can never have enough scorn heaped upon her? Michelle Malkin. William Donohue ceases to be a conservative for the purposes of this story, because people who say stupid things are automatically not conservative. She also says that if Christians went and killed lots of innocent people, everyone would stop criticizing them.

OK, CCP's link, Vox Day, and Berlusconi all make me feel completely entitled to lose my shit. (Berlusconi is especially worrisome. Isn't peaceful transfer of power important? When Bush stole an election he at least did it with the trappings of law.)

Vox Day wouldn't bother me because he seems like the sort screaming silently 'Impotent Rage!!!' while believing that leprechauns and the woman are the Reason he hasn't Gotten Ahead, except that his commenters seem to take him seriously. He proved statistically that rape doesn't exist through the power of mathematics!!!111!!

And that means there are more idiots in the world than are dreamt of in my philosophy.

Let me see if I can dig up the quote where Instapundit says much the same thing. He really has a remarkable record of talking about violence against media figures who say things he doesn't like.

Here we go (glennocidal tendencies too!). One Lucy quotes me and points out that this is especially egregious since a TV executive was one of the American Airlines 11 victims.

34: I read him as (falsely) claiming that the people who administered the survey couldn't know whether or not the people who had suffered an attempted rape were the same people who had suffered a completed rape. This is obvious nonsense, since they can avoid surveying the same people twice, and either say on the survey that one should only answer yes to the attempt question if not also answering yes to the raped question, or they can only count one answer per sheet.

He's relying on this paragraph from the linked article:

Correcting for the biases in the original survey yields a radically different picture of the prevalence of rape in America. Subtract the women identified by the alcohol and drug question and those who didn't think they had been raped, and total victims fall to between 3 and 5 percent of the women surveyed. This remains an alarmingly high number, but significantly less alarming than the one-in-four figure.

I await a more reliable source, but I hope this doesn't amount to "Three to five percent of women were raped while sober, because if you're drunk it doesn't count." And, as the IWFer points out, that's still plenty high.

39: The thing is that even if you wanted to remove most classes of date rape from the category of 'real rape,' (and I don't) if the woman has passed out, there's no possible way that she can give consent, and this has been recognized for a long time
