Re: Pleasantville

I don't know man...

My id wouldn't spend all of its time spewing expletives.

And you and your fiancee were laughing at the suburbanites? Let's try to be a little serious here. People who sit in a public space uttering unabated streams of expletives are NOT STABLE.

Maybe you just need to live in a real city. I was in New York City one evening having dinner at nice restaurant on the lower east side when some screaming homeless guy... began throwing chairs into the restaurant. (NOT plastic chairs.)

Like it or not, our lack of publicly funded mental health care plus our civil liberties protections that make it hard to commit people together mean that there are some wackos on the street. This guy was a) obviously nuts, b) therefore worthy of concern, and c) probably in a lot of pain...

Was Magique my signal that you were impersonating French liberal hauteur? Let's say yes, killjoy.

I was thinking about that as I posted, but I don't know if my subconscious was outrunning my conscious.

Anyway, I think it's too easy to laugh at suburbanites. And unseemly to recount it publicly without good cause.

And seriously, crazy homeless people are, relatively, very dangerous...

Oy Vey! Of course they're dangerous! He was even cooking! He had a hot plate, this crazy man! That's why my reaction was, to quote, "bizarre." There are lots of scary homeless people around here and I'm quite careful to avoid them (except for the one who approached me angrily and followed me into an underpass and wouldn't walk in front of me--him I couldn't avoid and had to calm down), but this man's banter, to my own great surprise, resonated, and it was in fact calming to hear it. It wasn't supposed to be a make-fun-of-the-crazy-homeless post, you Frenchified no sense-of-humor-having commenter! And the part making fun of the suburbanites was another joke (in the style of the crazy man, see?).

And I just reread your first comment. She wasn't laughing at the suburbanites, but the crazy guy. And you're still a Frenchified killjoy.
