No, it is not. In real life I have never heard anyone talk about watching any show that airs on a subscription-only channel. (Except the Sopranos) Those things are expensive!

Smallville, in particular, where you seem to need the TV-schedule enforced week to forget that the plot is pretty much the same: 'meteor rock' causes a mutation and robs Clark of his powers at the crucial moment! and someone will make a clever foreshadowing comment:
Lex: "Come on, Clark. I'm not a criminal mastermind."

I'm not quite through the first season of The Wire, and I'd have to say that it's certainly among the best TV dramas I've ever seen. I at the moment can't get the theme song out of my head, which is more worrisome than it might presently seem.
I'm not sure that the actor who plays Avon Barksdale is doing that good of a job. I'm also a bit puzzled at the progression of the Polish P guy, who went from drunken lout to meek cryptographer a bit too quickly.
