Re: Schadenfreude

I’m afraid this reminds me of the Duke of Wellington's reply, when he was asked before Waterloo if he expected any defections from the French: "We may pick up a Marshal or two, but nothing to signify."

This is a temporary detour. Every one of those guys will be back on board the GOP train, just in time for the elections, when we attack Iran.

I actually think that this is the straw that broke the camel's back. This has been building for awhile. The social Christians have thick heads, but they're starting to figure out that they've been used. Weyrich figured it out several years ago, and Ralph Reed's behavior has put him unmistakably in the conman class.

It's every man for himself within the Party now. No one's willing to be a scapegoat on an enormous issue like this. As I've said elsewhere: The Republicans may not care about fiscal recklessness, or the bloody and pointless Iraq war, or the destruction of the civil liberties tradition, or environmantal disaster. But they really do care, one way or another, is the taut butts of teenage boys.

Trivia: the acronym group that seems to be behind this is a girl group with a lady boss and a few token guys. Forget their name for the moment, but I checked them out yesterday.

Actually "social Christians" are liberal Christians. I meant "socially-conservative Christians".

The concern about an Iran war remains. It's the only card Bush has left.

This is sad but hilarious in its truth.

Eh, I'm not hopeful till I see the exit polls, unfortunately. Too many, 'well, sure, the Republicans are bad, but the Democrats are against my core values of being a sexist bigot'.

I'm in a foul mood today. Gimme a target so I can rant at it.

Yeah, J. Crew's sister group apparently. I didn't see any photos, but I emagine them all preppy.

This is exactly the same as you guys all crying about how you weren't going to vote for the Democrats after their cowardice on the torture bill. Nobody will stay home in November.

The Tenet/Condoleeza Rice matter may make a difference. She apparently lied about this to the 9/11 commission, though I may be mistaken about that. Anyway, it was fun to watch the headlines on this in the NYT. It started out "Rice Dismisses [Story]", changed on the same day to "Rice Denies [Story]", to today's headline, somewhere on page 10 or so, "[Story] is True". I hope the Democrats will make hay with this matter. Esp. as Bush also dismissed a warning, contemptuously.

Actually I think most people said that they'd still vote Democratic, and a lot of us argued that we should take the "cowardice" as a kick in the pants to get enough Dems into Congress to actually make it possible for them to do something besides ineffectively vote against shitty bills.

17: Well, Bitch, yes. Cool stuff, no? I quoted John Emerson's line about caring about teenage boys' asses while we were chatting about what might or might not be the topic of the show. And yes, I credited both him and Unfogged. So if I do go on, you never know: we might get a whole new set of trolls to play with.

And can I be your fanboy? I promise only the most tasteful of fanfic posted to various ezboards.

When are you on, B? Do tell! If the unfogged community were to agree upon a secret unfogged word-of-the-day, would you, in fact, speak said word-of-the-day on the air, providing the unfogged community with great opportunity for twitters and giggles?

I suggest "Lepidopterous."

23 -- didn't B. say she had already gotten interviewed? And that she mentioned Emerson's name, which should certainly count as a "tell"?

Fanboys welcome, and I mentioned Emerson and Unfogged in the pre-interview, but not on the actual aired show (though I alluded to you guys as "another blog I hang out at"), which can be found here.
