This is so appalling. How do these mullahs sleep at night?
What makes Iran so brutal right now is that there's an absolutist ideology *and* deep hatred between groups. The thugs come from poor families and already hate the educated middle to upper middle class protesters. At the higher levels of government, some people really believe that they're keeping western decadence at bay. Others are simply evil. None of that answers your question.
