Re: Solidarity, Brother

I can't imagine it's an efficient use of time, profiling. (From what I've seen evidentially, it isn't.) Stop every man? What, not even an age range? Height? Build?

And in Brooklyn, not the whitest of areas? Yeah, even someone who wanted to defend racial profiling under some circumstances would have to admit that this order was nuts. Luckilly, the cops listening agreed.

It was Park Slope, though.

You're so old-fashioned, LB.

Given that I just spent the evening dressmaking, sure, but what's your point?

You made a dress? For Sally?

For Buck?

That wouldn't be old-fashioned.

7: Yep. Blasted Halloween costume. I am not at one with my sewing machine -- it jams constantly. And the lever to make it stitch backward is jammed in some fashion that I can't figure out even after unscrewing all the access plates.

But the Nausica'a costume is less a dress than a miniskirt, no?

(Which I guess would also not be sufficiently old-fashioned for our LizardBreath.)

Thanks for the link, LB! I'm so glad this story is getting traction around the blogosphere. Good news is rare in these times.

Any time. And I swear I'll make it out for drinks some Monday -- I just haven't had a Monday I wasn't working until 9 for months now.

I, too, prefer knitting to sewing. Fiddly damn machine. Luckily, PK is going to be a pirate this year, though he hasn't decided if Jack or William, which means easy no-sewing costume.

In fact, I think I'm well on my way to declaring homemade costumes only for toddlers. I'll do the birthday cakes, but sewing? Ugh.

Yeah, this was the result of a conversation with Sally where she said she wanted to be a Disney Princess (TM), and I gave her shit for being a boring corporate tool. Then she said that "Well, you won't be able to get what I really want," and I told her "Nonsense, my powers are beyond your puny imagination." And she asked for a Nausicaa costume, which isn't for sale. So I'm tailoring.

While I came into the negotiation strong, I think I may have gotten played.

If your sewing machine is jamming constantly, you might want to take it into a shop to get it looked at. Sometimes the fix is easy, as when the shop dude removed the approximately 500 straight pins that my sisters and I had dropped into the inviting little hole on the top of the chassis.

16: Ha! I'm like, "Pirates of the Caribbean (TM) Pirate? Okey-doke!"

Of course, pirates are cooler than princesses. And of course b/c no one thinks William is cool except PK, there isn't a William costume. I'm going to have to find a picture of Orlando Bloom and then see if I can reproduce the costume, darn it.

Well, and Disney Princesses (TM) are particularly lame and toolish. Nothing against princesses, particularly. Nausicaa's a princess. With a glider, and giant bugs, and guns!
